Eat

For some reason, everyone wants to know what I'm eating. I love to cook, so hopefully, once I get this grocery thing down, I will have more interesting posts and pictures, but until then, here is some of the stuff I've been eating!

Obviously, when you're in Spain, you should be eating Italian food... right? Well, I didn't pick the restaurant, but I ordered a turkey burger. Strangely, it didn't come with a bun! The peppers were really good and seem to be very popular in Spain (I've already had them twice) but I wish they were hotter!

Tapas!

Our program directors Magali and Alex took us out to celebrate our first weekend in Spain. They treated us to tapas and sangria at one of their favorite local restaurants. on the left are potato wedges in ketchup and spicy mustard (didn't like these- I don't like ketchup) and on the right is hummus and pita chips. That was delicious. We also had seasoned nuts that went great with the hummus and more of the peppers.

GNOCCHI

Like I said, Italian food is apparently very popular in Spain, at least with my friends. It tasted great and had chunks of fresh mozzarella in it. After a long day of exploring in the rain in Barcelona, it tasted delicious.

Starbucks in every country

I've never seen cheesecake in a Starbucks in the US, but I stopped in one while Christian was getting his hair cut and the raspberry cheesecake was great!

Empanadas

Dolce de Leche's finest

Magali suggested this cute little cafe in the heart of Sant Cugat. Apparently, they are the best Empanadas in Sant Cugat. While I have no frame of reference to put them against, they were definitely amazing. Dolce de Leche also had amazing Chocolate fudge cake with strawberry compote, but I couldn't help myself and ate it before I could take a picture.

My Beautiful Strawberry Cheesecake

This is the box made cheesecake that I accidentally bought online. It was really tasty and tasted more like normal cheesecake than the no bake cheesecakes I normally make, but it had a different texture. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either! Win for amazon pantry!

Chocolate chunk pancakes

Another weird thing that Spain is missing? Chocolate chips! So this was a throwback to when Kate and I made chocolate chunk pancakes with Dove chocolate and a butcher knife because we were out of chocolate chips. Would have loved to have peanut butter chips to make reese's cup pancakes, but I picked up coco powder to make chocolate pancake next time!

I love donuts, so after missing our train, Chris and I went to the Dunkin Donuts in the Metro station. Since coconut is my favorite, the blue coconut Cookie Monster was perfect for breakfast!

I ate cookie monster

Finally Some Chinese Food!

I am definitely  a huge fan of Chinese food and I really needed  to get some spicy food. This was not as spicy as I'm used to, but it was spicier than anything else I've had so far!

Crepes

Were you even in France if you didn't eat a crepe? I think not. This one was delicious, even if it doesn't look like it. It was filled with speculoos, which is basically the same stuff the famous cookiebutter from Trader Joe's is made out of.

Casoulet and Panna Cotta

Carcassonne's famous food

Never in a million years would I have tried something that is made of duck, pork, sausage, beans, and any manner of other things, but our instructor told us that Casoulet is a Carcassonne specialty and if you are going to try it anywhere, gt it there. So it happened to be the daily special at the restaurant we went to for dinner, which was three courses- salad, casoulet, and panna cotta! I had never had it before and all of it was amazing! I definitely need to learn how to make panna cotta because it was like jello/cream/ice cream all rolled into one. YASSSSSSS

Real French Macaroons

I tried to be really French in France. Can you tell?

Iron Chef

I'm working on cooking more real meals at the dorm, which is a challenge given the lack of American ingredients, but I'm getting there.

Left to right we have my scrambled eggs with peppers and grapes, homemade panna cotta with fresh strawberry compote (compote good, panna cotta bad), and my cheesy chicken and asparagus with a salad.

Always 3 Courses...

Pasta Appetizer

For some reason, dishes that we would see as entrees are appetizers here. Basically, it's cheaper here to buy a preset "menu" for around 13 euros than to buy a single entree, so we eat a lot of food

Pork Entree

This was marketed as steak... it was not steak...

Chocolate Cake Dessert

Yummmmmmmmmm

Croquettas

If you've never had croquettas, they are basically fried balls of potato, meat (ham, in this case) and cheese. Basically everything good in this world.

Steak and Fries

Believe me, it tastes better than it looks.

3 Courses Again

Chocolate Brownie

Definitely forgot to take a picture of it, but here's one from online...

Bet you thought I was kidding

Again, Pasta, Pork, and dessert, this time it was lemon sorbet though!

All the Macaroons!

I got huge macaroons at a common cafe called Paul and really tasty ones at Versailles!

The Fancy Dinner!

Salad

WEIRD dressing

Stake and Fries

The herb butter was to die for!

Dame Blanche

The best thing ever. Eat this always.

Literally the best grilled cheese

I would like to eat this every day of my life.

Sorbet

Peach and Mango Sorbet go together perfectly! Still not the best mango I've had, but it was good. Maybe next time I go to Artisa in Barcelona, I'll post  picture.

Real French Beignets

Ok so I've had Louisiana Beignets and they are sooooo much better! These French ones were pretty much just powdered sugar donut holes. I would much rather have the ones form Louisiana. Hook me up, Uncle Ed! The one bright side of these ones- they had chocolate in them!
