El Mercat and Placa de Sant Pere

Our first guided sketching exercise was at the old market in Sant Cugat. It was transformed into a market dining space where you can buy fresh fish, meat, fruit, veggies, and dessert and they will cook it for you. Believe me, be got some strange looks from patrons while we were walking around so we could find the locations of the inner columns.

Caixa Forum Barcalona

After some section sketching, we were released to do some free sketching. I added the perspective that corresponds with the picture. I may also add a plan of the entrance addition which was designed by Arata Isozaki in 2002.

Barcelona Pavilion

I have always wanted to go to the Barcelona Pavilion ever since I started studying architecture. Since I never really planned on studying abroad, I didn't think I would ever see it in real life.

My text talks about how Barcelona has so many historic buildings in such close proximity.

Placa Reial

The areal perspective shows the detail of the placas and their relationship to the surrounding streets.

Yes, that weird mark in the corner is bird poop. According to my loving boyfriend, that's just the bird showing its approval. I don't necessarily believe that.

Empuries

The Roman and Greek cities lay on Costa Brava in the South East of Spain. This sketch was part of the three day field trip to France that I returned from on 9/23.

Fortresse de Salses

The Fortress of Salses  was the second stop on the trip through Southern France

Basilica de Sant Nazaire

Located in the Medieval city of Carcassonne, France, the basilica is an example of the combination of traditional Romanesque religious structures with the later Gothic structure. Since it took so long to build such monuments, Churches and larger religious structures that were started in the Romanesque style regularly were finished in the later Gothic style, which allowed for thinner walls and more detailed windows.

Chateau of Carcassonne

The Chateau was connected to the walls that surround the city. From the inner tower and courtyard, you could get to the outter wall and walk along most of it to see the city from an entirely different perspective.

The Crypts of Sant Miquel del Cuixart

While this wasn't the most popular location in the Abbey, I enjoyed it the most. It was a secluded place that offered a beautiful secret garden-like  view into a tiny recessed courtyard.
